The conference will focus on the effects of unification on a broad range of topics and fields, it will analyze a wide range of issues connected to the successes and failures of nation-building in Italy over the past century and a half. Papers are welcome across the subject disciplines of the arts, humanities and social sciences as which directly engage with the consequences of unification and the complete or incomplete processes of nationbuilding.
We particularly invite contributions that relate to one or more of the following themes:
Political, economic and social consequences, past and present
Images of the nation through literature and media
Personality cults
Artistic, architectural and archaeological expressions of and challenges to the nation
Italy as a (post)colonial nation

The Southern Question
Migration
Borders and boundaries
Religion
