Salary scale: £30,870 to £35,788 per annum (pro rata if part time)
This post is fixed term for 5 months.
Applications are invited for the post of Fixed Term Lecturer in French in the Department of Languages, Translation and Media, College of Arts and Humanities, reference 5945.
It is expected that the successful candidate will commence in post, no later than 3rd October 2011.
Swansea University has a long tradition of excellence in French Studies and has more recently developed a strong international reputation for Translation Studies. The newly-formed Department of Languages, Translation and Media brings together researchers and practitioners in a range of languages (Chinese, French, German, Italian, Polish, Spanish) with professionals in print and electronic media, journalism and public relations, to offer practice-based and culturally-informed degrees.
This job provides a role for a candidate with academic potential and interest in French Studies to develop their career.
The successful candidate will have a PhD in French or closely related subject. Applicants should also be able to demonstrate a proven track record of academic research and evidence of a publishing record or the strong potential to develop one leading to submission to the Research Excellence Framework (REF). Evidence of efforts to identify and secure external research funding will also be advantageous.
In addition to having native or near-native speaker competence in French, an ability to teach and assess undergraduate and postgraduate students is essential. The successful candidate will be a fluent communicator in both French and English, will able to engage effectively with colleagues and students at all levels of study. Previous experience of teaching within higher education is desirable.
