The Center Altreitalie on Italian Migration is a center of research and documentation on the history, culture and current issues related to Italian migrations in the world, within the association Globus et Locus. It operates with the support of the Compagnia di San Paolo and is based in Turin.
The Center is holding a competition for the award of one prize of 1000 euros for a Ph.D thesis discussed at a foreign university starting from the academic year 2005-6.
Languages admitted are: Italian, English, French, German, Portuguese and Spanish.
The thesis must deal with Italian migrations, either from an historical, political, sociological, economic, anthropological, cultural, literary or artistic perspective, including specific topics such as contemporary migrations, return migrations and ethnic identity of the descendants of migrants.
Entries must be unpublished.
Documentation requirements
1. personal data;
2. Curriculum vitae et studiorum of the candidate;
3. letter of introduction of the candidate by the thesis’ advisor;
4. abstract of about 400 words indicating the contents of the dissertation and the originality of the contribution, in English or Italian;
5. address, telephone number and e-mail;
6. signed declaration to authorize the processing of personal data under Article 7 of Italian law D.Lgs.196/2003
7. authorization to place the thesis in the library of the Center

A printed copy of the thesis, is required with a copy in electronic format (PDF: on CD-ROM or by email). A committee constituted by the Altreitalie Center will proceed to the final selection of the thesis. With the approval of the author, the selected thesis might be published in the journal Altreitalie. The Center Altreitalie reserves the right to make the thesis received available for consultation, in the library of the Center.
