Junior Researcher (Phd student) in Interactive Media and Learning

The assistant will be a member of the LCMI research unit (Languages, Culture, Media and Identities).The research activities of LCMI are focused on understanding and analysing multiple learning and development conceptions of individuals and organisations, in the framework of a (multi-)culturally defined society. He/she will work under the tutelage of Professor Dr. Charles Max.

Activities

 

The successful candidate will take up his/her research within one of the following research foci, currently developed within the research group:

a) interactive (including social) media and processes of learning and development

b) multimodal interaction and learning involving relevant analytical tools and methodologies

Specifically, this work would

• fit with activities dealing with media/technology enhanced learning, users' needs analysis and capacity building in formal/informal learning settings

• contribute to the analysis of media/knowledge management devices (including gaming and MU environments) in terms cultural tools

• be grounded in data-driven empirical research, gathered in natural and/or semi-experimental diversified (e.g., virtual/semi-virtual) working/learning contexts

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to teach in the domain of «media, interaction and design » or « activity, development and intervention » within the Master programme «Learning and Development in multilingual and multicultural contexts».

Profile

 

* MA degree (or equivalent) and other relevant experiences in one of the following fields, their intersections or domains of specialisation:

* learning sciences

* ICT or digital media literacy

* interactional studies,

* multimodal knowledge management,

* activity related research and process-oriented methodologies

* bring along a clear interest in and experience for working with empirical data in the field of interactive media and learning

* be committed to the enhancement of research within the specific field “Development, Interaction, Cognition and Activity” and in the UL Research Priority “Education and Learning in Multilingual and Multicultural Contexts”.

 

As the candidate has to integrate into a multilingual teaching and research team, she/he has excellent command (written and spoken) of at least two of the following languages: French, German, English. Furthermore, excellent self-management skills, intercultural and inter-institutional awareness as well as a spirit of team-work are a prerequisite for this position.
