The Role:

The School of European Culture and Languages is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in French to build on its strong research profile. Applications from specialists in any area of French Studies from 1630 to the present day are welcome. However, applications from those with research interests partly or entirely in the nineteenth or the long eighteenth century will be particularly welcome. The new lecturer will make an outstanding research contribution and build on the department’s existing research strengths. The applicant will be expected to show a strong research profile for the REF 2014. In addition to teaching across the full undergraduate programme, the candidate will be expected to contribute to existing and/or new MA courses. They will be expected to participate fully in the School of European Culture and Languages, including its research lectures and programmes.

 

The Person:

The successful candidate will have a PhD or equivalent in any area of French Studies with native or near-native command of French. A developing profile of international excellence in research and publication and a strong submission for the 2014 REF(3*– 4* level) is essential. The successful candidate will have experience in the development of taught programmes of study at Undergraduate level and the ability to deliver effective teaching in French.

The School of European Culture and Languages (SECL) is one of the largest academic schools at the University of Kent, embracing four modern language subjects (French, German, Hispanic Studies and Italian), English Language and Linguistics, Classical and Archaeological Studies, Comparative Literature, Philosophy and Religious Studies. It offers an extensive range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and a wide variety of research opportunities.
