Applications are invited for the above whole-time permanent post.
The Department of Hispanic Studies at UCC is a vibrant centre of teaching and research across a broad range of areas, including modern and contemporary Spain and Latin America. as well as the languages and cultures of Portugal, Catalonia and Galicia. It has two active research centres - the Centre for Mexican Studies and the Irish Centre for Galician Studies - and offers courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. We are now looking for a highly qualified and motivated lecturer who will further develop the department's already strong research profile. The post is available from September 2012 or as soon as possible thereafter.
Applicants will hold a Ph.D in an area of Hispanic Studies and must have native or near-native command of Spanish. Specialists in any area of modern and contemporary Hispanic Studies will be welcome, including applied linguistics, sociolinguistics and/or translation studies, chicano/latino studies, visual culture and film. The ability to combine teaching and/or research expertise in Hispanic and Lusophone Studies would be of particular interest to the strategic needs of the Department and the School of Languages, Literatures and Cultures of which it is part.
The appointee must be in a position to contribute significantly to the Department's research and to the further development of postgraduate studies in the Department. S/he will be required to teach in their own specialist area and contribute to a range of courses at both departmental and School levels. Evidence of a commitment to excellence and innovation in both teaching and research is required. A strong contribution to the research culture of both the department and the School of Languages, Literatures and Cultures will be expected. A record of applications for external research funding, commensurate with the experience of the applicant, will be an advantage, as will the capacity and willingness to network and co-develop collaborative research projects.

Appointments will be made on the Lectureship Salary Scale [new entrants 2011]*: €31,821 - €51,270/€62,353 - €81,459
*Existing public servants continuously employed in the public sector on/after 31st December 2010 will be placed on the 2010 salary scales (non new entrants)
