Die Stiftung Preußischer Kulturbesitz (SPK) mit ihren einzigartigen Museen, Bibliotheken und Archiven ist eine der größten und vielseitigsten Kultur- und Wissenschaftseinrichtungen in Deutschland und weltweit. Die Quellen der ihr anvertrauten Überlieferung werden in der ganzen Breite der kulturellen
Erscheinungsformen in den Staatlichen Museen zu Berlin (SMB), der Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin (SBB), dem Geheimen Staatsarchiv Preußischer Kulturbesitz (GStA PK), dem Ibero-Amerikanischen Institut (IAI) und dem Staatlichen Institut für Musikforschung (SIM) bewahrt, ergänzt, erschlossen und
erforscht.
„Das Stipendienprogramm der SPK ermöglicht Wissenschaftlern und Wissenschaftlerinnen aus der ganzen Welt ein- bis dreimonatige Forschungs- und Arbeitsaufenthalte an den Einrichtungen der SPK in Berlin. Gefördert werden wissenschaftliche Vorhaben, die mit den vielfältigen Arbeitsbereichen der SPK in Zusammenhang stehen. Die Stipendien sollen in erster Linie ausländische Wissenschaftler und Wissenschaftlerinnen in die Lage versetzen, in den Museen, Bibliotheken und Archiven der SPK zu arbeiten, am wissenschaftlichen und kulturellen Leben innerhalb der SPK und in Berlin
teilzunehmen und Fachkontakte zu Mitarbeitern und Mitarbeiterinnen der SPK sowie anderer Einrichtungen in Deutschland zu knüpfen. (...)
Der Antrag auf Gewährung eines Stipendiums muss für das erste Halbjahr eines Jahres bis zum 30. September des Vorjahres und für das zweite Halbjahr bis zum 31. März desselben Jahres gestellt werden. (...)
Antragsberechtigt sind promovierte Wissenschaftler/Wissenschaftlerinnen, Graduierte und Doktoranden/Doktorandinnen. Die Antragsteller / Antragstellerinnen haben mindestens über einen
ersten Hochschulabschluss zum Zeitpunkt der Bewerbung zu verfügen. (...)
Die Stipendien können in der Regel für eine Dauer von ein bis drei Monaten beantragt werden. Die Länge des Aufenthalts hängt vom Umfang des Vorhabens ab und wird bei der Vergabe festgelegt. (...)
Höhe der Stipendien
a. Graduierten- bzw. Doktoranden-Stipendium für Personen mit einem ersten
Hochschulabschluss: EUR 900,-/monatlich.
b. Postdoc-/Forschungsstipendium für Personen mit Promotion oder vergleichbarer Qualifikation: EUR 1.200,-/monatlich.
Zusätzlich kann gegen Vorlage der entsprechenden Belege ein einmaliger Reisekostenzuschuss von bis zu EUR 500,- gewährt werden."

Guidelines
Preamble
The Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation (SPK), with its unique museums, libraries and archives, is one of the largest and most varied cultural and scholarly institutions in Germany and the world. The sources of the tradition entrusted to it are preserved, added to, made accessible and researched in the
entire range of cultural forms of appearance in the Berlin State Museums (SMB), the Berlin State Library (SBB), the Privy State Archives (GStA PK) the Ibero-American Institute (IAI) and the State Institute of Music Research (SIM).
1. Objective of the Grant Programme
The scholarship programme of the SPK enables scholars from all over the world to undertake onemonth to three-month research and work residencies at the institutions of the SPK in Berlin. Scholarly projects can be funded if they are related to one or several of the various areas of work of the SPK.
The scholarships are primarily intended to enable foreign scholars to work at the museums, libraries and archives of the SPK, to participate in scholarly and cultural life within the SPK and in Berlin, and to make professional contacts with employees of the SPK and of other institutions in Germany. The scholarship programme aims to strengthen the international network of the SPK.
2. Application
The application for a scholarship must be made, for the first half-year of a year, by 30 September of the previous year, and for the second half-year, by 30 March of the same year. The application is made directly to the director of the institution of the SPK where a residency is sought: to the Director
General of the SMB or SBB, or to the Director of the GStA PK, the IAI or the SIM. Decisions concerning the applications are made by the institutions of the SPK.
The following application documents must be submitted with the application:
• a completed application form (see separate annexe);
• a tabular curriculum vitae;
• two expert reports concerning the candidate’s scholarly qualification;
• a list of publications;
• copies of college/university diplomas and of certificates indicating the conferral of academic degrees;
• a detailed exposition of the project with statements concerning the justification and overall aim, procedure and method, concerning the preparatory work already achieved and cooperation with other scholars, as well as a bibliography of the most important works related to the current subject.
3. Prerequisites for Application
Graduate scholars, postgraduates and doctoral candidates are eligible for application. The applicants must hold at least a first university degree at the time of application.
4. Scholarship Duration
In general, applications may be made for scholarships for a period of one to three months. The length of the residency depends on the extent of the project and is established at the time of granting.
5. Scholarship Amount
a. Graduate and/or doctoral-candidate scholarship for persons with a first university degree: 900 Euros per month.
b. Post-doctoral research scholarship for persons holding a doctorate or comparable qualification: 1,200 Euros per month.
In addition, a one-off allowance for travelling expenses of up to 500 Euros may be granted upon presentation of the appropriate proofs.
6. Selection Procedure
The selection of applications will be made in the respective institution of the SPK for which the scholarship residency has been applied for, based on the submitted documents. The scholarly qualifications of the applicant, the scholarly quality of the project and its significance for the work of the
given field are decisive. Reasons for the granting or refusal of an application will not be given.
7. Obligations of the Scholarship Holders
The scholarship holders are obliged
• to concentrate their residency on the research project described in the application;
• to immediately inform the Director of the respective institution of the SPK if the research project being sponsored cannot be carried out as planned;
• not to accept any paid work or employment during the scholarship residency;
• to participate in scholarly and other events of the respective facility of the SPK and possibly to present the project to the employees of that facility at an open discussion or public lecture;
• to submit a written report on the results and experiences upon termination of the scholarship;
• if the results of the project are published, to present a copy of the publication to the respective institution of the SPK and to the Berlin State Library.
8. Obligations of the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation
The hosting institution of the SPK is obliged to
• provide the scholarship recipient with a place to work;
• to guarantee scholarly supervision insofar as this is possible and desired;
• to help in making necessary contacts with other scholars and facilities in Berlin and in Germany.
