Applications are invited for the post of Temporary Lecturer in Early Modern Studies in French, ideally with a particular interest in the sixteenth century.
You will be expected to contribute to teaching and administration within the Department, undertaking language teaching when necessary, giving lectures in the following undergraduate courses: Fr. 6, French Literature, Thought and History from 1510-1622 and Fr. 12, Early Modern Thought, acting as a convenor for one or both of these papers, supervising MPhil work in relevant fields, and assisting in Tripos examinations. You may also be expected to teach the full range of texts set for the first-year literature paper, if you choose to join a College, and to offer specialist language teaching for second and final-year students.
You will be required to hold a PhD and to specialize in one of the areas in which you will be lecturing. You will have a strong profile, both in terms of research and publications, and the promise of making an outstanding contribution to the Department of French. You will have native or excellent non-native command of French and English.

Shortlisted candidates for the post will be notified at the beginning of June 2010 and will also be asked to give a short presentation of 20 minutes to a mixed group of graduate students and members of the Department prior to the interview itself.
The appointment is subject to a satisfactory completion of a probationary period of one year.

*The employment will begin on 1 October 2010 in order to provide temporary replacement cover in respect of the research leave of a member of the Department of French. This is a fixed-term post and the period of replacement cover will be until 30 September 2012, subject to satisfactory completion of a probationary period of one year.
