The CLEPUL – Centro de Literaturas de Expressão Portuguesa das Universidades de Lisboa (Centre of Literatures of Portuguese Expression of the Universities of Lisbon), the Research Department of the Science and Technology Foundation, which belongs to the University of Lisbon Foundation, at the Faculty of Letters of the University of Lisbon, is searching for applicants to a post as a PhD researcher in History, preferably with more than three years of experience. This opportunity has come up in Ciência 2008 programme at the University of Lisbon and it is funded by the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia so as to promote the integration of people with the doctoral level in Portugal.
The goal of this opportunity is to give a post as a researcher so as to develop research tasks in these research unit projects, especially those concerning the research area of European Literatures and Cultures.
This study area has the goal of observing the evolution of Portuguese Culture, and also of connecting it to their fellow Lusophone Cultures in their relationships with another European Cultures. This way, matters of intertextuality and interdiscursivity are taken into account.
The successful candidate will also work in the critical edition of texts, organization of scientific events for this institution. Cooperation in the guidance of thesis and in the training of young post-graduate researchers will also be required to the candidate. The candidate will also work at the coordination and accomplishment of present projects at this research institution, namely at the attainment of a critical edition of the Obra Completa do Marquês de Pombal (the Complete Works of Marquês de Pombal), in the preparation of a Multimedia Dictionary on Padre António Vieira and in the preparation of this author’s Complete Works.
Profile of the candidates:
1. Doctoral researchers for more than three years in the fields of History, Culture and/or Literature in Portuguese or foreign universities.
2. Candidates with less than three years experience may be considered in exceptional cases.
3. Preference will be given to those who:
- Have proven their scientific worth in research work(s) on Portuguese Literature History and/or Culture in what relates to the European Literature History and/or Culture.
- Have presented original research work in Portugal and other countries.
- Are capable and experienced in the coordination of collective scientific work.
- Demonstrate experience and competence in the organization of national and international scientific events.
- Demonstrate leadership in what concerns creating and coordinating projects and/or scientific institutions connected to national and international networks.
- Guarantee research teams leadership ability.
- Continue to have international scientific cooperation, besides on and off initiatives.
- Participate in national and international magazine advisory bodies.
- Have their work oriented towards scientific and culture exchange between Portuguese and European Literatures and Cultures.

1) a curriculum vitae; 2) copies of degree certificates; 3) letter of motivation; 4) two recommendation letters; 5) copy of an identification document (ID card, passport or other) 6) other relevant documentation.

The evaluation process will be done by a Selection Committee that, after evaluating the documentation of the applicants, may reserve the right to summon the candidates for an interview. In the meantime, if there are no appropriate candidates, the Selection Committee is not obliged to choose one for the post.
