André Chastel fellowship

of the National Institute of History of Art

and the French Academy in Rome - Villa Medici

As of May 2010, as part of scientific exchanges, the French National Institute of History of Art and the French Academy in Rome – Villa Medici - will award every year three

 

André Chastel fellowships of the National Institute of History of Art and the French Academy in Rome.

 

These fellowships are post-doctoral ones for studies on the modern and contemporary period.

 

As stated these fellowship students are housed in Rome, at Villa Medici. These fellowships are intended for researchers in history of French and foreign art willing to go to Rome in order to conduce a research in Roman and/or Italian institutions (lecturers, university professors, heritage curators, independent researchers, and independent commissioners). The candidates must hold a PhD (or equivalent) or be heritage curators. The fellowship amounting is 1500 € with the possibility of an accommodation at the Villa Medici for a preferential fee of 350 € per month.

The research projects can be written in French or English.

 

SELECTION COMMITTEE

The selection committee is composed of the Director of the INHA, the director of the French Academy in Rome, the Director of the INHA study and research

department, the representative for history of art at the French Academy in Rome and an external personality. The committee meets once a year, in June, and the applications must be submitted before 15th June 2010 (by mail or e-mail – see the address below).

 

APPLICATION

The application includes :

1) A letter of candidacy addressed to the Director of the National Institute of

History of Art.

2) A detailed program (4 pages maximum), in French or English, including:

▪ The research’s general presentation

▪ The specific subject requiring the candidate’s presence in Rome.

▪ The research institutions where the documentation and the Archives are

located.

3) An attestation from a scientific personality supporting the application.

4) An application form duly completed, to be downloaded either from the:

The committee meets once a year, in June.

The residencies, of at least one-month stay, are allocated from 1st August to 31st December 2010.
