Call for Chapter Proposals
Chapter proposals are invited for the first edited book on the themes and films of Claire Denis. As Denis' films are rich in subject matter, story, theme and contemporary concerns, the preference is for a cross-disciplinary perspective, which may include film studies but does not have to concentrate solely on or derive from it. Also, as Denis has released two new films in 2008 and 2009, some proposed writings about these films, their themes and relationship to Denis' body of work would be appreciated. Collaborations are invited, especially between scholars, artists, writers, poets, filmmakers, philosophers, etc. of differing media and field. Solid interview proposals between potential contributors, writers, etc. and/or people with whom Denis' regularly works, will also be considered. Must include letter of collaboration or interview with proposal.
Final selected chapters DO NOT have to be written in English. Translation of chapter in any language will be provided, but only for accepted chapters. Proposals must be in English.
Topics may relate to the following subjects, but are not limited to: human geography, global citizenship, foreignness, the future of race and immigration, family psychology, kinship, exile, identity development, gender, geopolitical bodies, fathering/parenting, nationalism, border politics, sexuality, post-colonialism and decolonization, language and communication, African history, biracialism, landscape interpretation, multiculturalism, music and sound, etc.
The publisher is Atropos Press and the editor is Marjorie Vecchio, PhD, Director and curator, Sheppard Fine Arts Gallery, University of Nevada, Reno; and Fall 2009 M.M. Fort Foundation Scholar-in-Residence, Columbus State University, GA.
