Das Kolloquium verfolgt die Zielsetzung, die transkulturelle Dimension enzyklopädischer Werke im Aufklärungszeitalter (1680-1830) in zweifacher Perspektive zu untersuchen und hieraus ein internationales, deutsch-amerikanisches Forschungsprojekt zu entwickeln: zum hinsichtlich ihrer interkulturellen Übersetzungs- und Adaptationsformen in anderen Sprach- und Kulturräumen; und andererseits unter dem Blickwinkel der Rezeption, Übersetzung und Verarbeitung von Quellen, die den Enzyklopädieartikeln zugrundeliegen.
