University Lectureship in Brazilian Studies

University of Cambridge - Spanish and Portuguese

 

Applications are invited for the post of University Lecturer in Brazilian Studies. Preference will be given to candidates who can offer undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in one or more of the following areas: Brazilian literature from the nineteenth century to the present, Brazilian Film and Visual Culture, Brazilian History, and Brazilian Cultural Studies.

 

The successful candidate would be expected to contribute to lectures, supervisions and language teaching and actively promote Lusophone Studies in the Faculty. The ability to contribute to comparative teaching within the Faculty would be an advantage.

 

Contribution to Faculty M.Phil. courses and supervision of research students at M.Phil and Ph.D. level in the area of Brazilian Studies will also be an integral part of this position.

 

The successful candidate will be expected to take up appointment on 1 September 2013 or as soon as possible thereafter. The principal duties of the post include devising new courses and contributing to the teaching and examining of existing courses in Brazilian literature and culture, and to a lesser extent in Peninsular Portuguese Literature and Literature from African countries of Portuguese expression, as well as language teaching. The successful candidate will be expected to have a PhD, to show outstanding achievement and potential in research and publication in the field of Brazilian Studies, and to have a native or excellent near-native command of both Portuguese and English.

 

The pensionable scale of stipends for a University Lecturer is currently £37,012 to £46, 846 a year and all appointments made at University Lecturer level are to the retiring age, subject to a probationary period of five years.

Candidates may also be invited to submit further recent examples of their work for consideration by the Committee or, in the case of work which has been published, to draw the Committee's attention to items of special relevance to their application. They will also be asked to give a presentation prior to interview. Presentations and interviews will take place on 8 March 2013.
